The plate glass rationing system, which had continued both during and after the war, was abolished. In order to respond to the explosive increase in demand, we established the new Miyamotocho Factory, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and production methods. While inheriting craftsmanship from our predecessors, we built a modern manufacturing method that makes full use of machinery and chemistry.

Following up on our main business of manufacturing glass and mirrors, we also enhanced our retail sector. The Shimizu Sales Office, which was in Shimizu City (that is now the Shimizu Ward of Shizuoka City), was renovated as a specialty store for mirrors, glassware, and electric appliances. In addition, we built a new 2-story retail store in the Shichikencho district. It was one of the largest glass retail stores in all of Japan.

The Scars of War

Kaimeido was forced to drastically reduce business due to various restrictions during World War 2. Shizuoka City was burned to ashes by the Shizuoka Air Raid at midnight on June 19, 1945. Kaimeido lost the store that we had just been rebuilt after the Shizuoka Great Fire, the wholesale department sales office, the Miyamotocho factory and warehouse, and much of the company housing. In total, a site of almost 10,000 square meters was devastatingly damaged, turning it into a mountain of rubble.
